TrigammonX features a unique three-sided board that can rotate to provide a comfortable view for each player!
Unlike traditional backgammon, TrigammonX has three players positioned around a triangular playing area. Board rotation helps players follow the action and view the game from different perspectives.

1. What Is Automatic Board Rotation?

Automatic board rotation allows TrigammonX to rotate the playing board as turns change. With three players, the board can rotate in 120-degree increments, helping position the active player's area toward the preferred viewing direction. This is particularly useful when several people are sharing a single device.

2. How Does Automatic Rotation Work?

When automatic rotation is enabled:

  1. A player completes their turn.
  2. Play advances to the next player.
  3. The board automatically adjusts its orientation.
  4. The next player continues from the updated view.
The exact rotation behaviour may depend on your selected settings and game version.

3. Can I Rotate the Board Manually?

Yes!

TrigammonX also supports manual board rotation.
This lets you adjust the viewing direction yourself rather than having the board rotate automatically with every turn.
Manual rotation can be useful when:
  • You prefer a fixed viewing position.
  • You're playing against computer opponents.
  • You want to examine the board from another player's perspective.
  • You're playing on a tablet or desktop computer.

4. Can I Turn Automatic Rotation Off?

Yes!

TrigammonX provides rotation settings that let you choose between automatic and manual control. Look for the available board rotation options in the game's settings or layout controls. The exact location of these controls may differ between versions.

5. Does Rotating the Board Change the Game?

No!

Board rotation changes only how the game is displayed.
It does not change:
  • The positions of your checkers.
  • The legal moves available.
  • The numbers on your dice.
  • The direction your checkers travel.
  • The rules of the game.
All three players continue moving their checkers counterclockwise around the board, regardless of its visual orientation.

6. Which Rotation Mode Should I Choose?

It depends on how you like to play!

Automatic rotation is especially useful when three people share a device and take turns.
Manual rotation may be more comfortable when playing against AI opponents or when you prefer to keep the board in one orientation.
Try both options to discover which feels best for you.

7. Can I Change Rotation During a Game?

TrigammonX includes adjustable board presentation controls.

Depending on the game version and available settings, you may be able to change the rotation behaviour without starting a new game.
