Three players. Three dice. One winner!
The objective of TrigammonX is simple: be the first player to move all 15 of your checkers into your home board and legally bear them off. But with three players competing, reaching that goal can be quite a challenge!

1. The Objective of the Game

Each player starts with 15 checkers on the unique 36-point Trigammon board.

To win, you must:
  1. Move your checkers counterclockwise around the board.
  2. Navigate past blocks and threats from two opponents.
  3. Bring all 15 checkers into your home board.
  4. Bear off every checker before either opponent does.
The first player to bear off all 15 checkers wins!

2. It's a Race Against Two Opponents.

Unlike traditional backgammon, TrigammonX has three competing players. This means you must pay attention to two opponents who may be trying to block your moves, hit your exposed checkers, or reach their own home boards. A player who appears to be behind can sometimes make a surprising comeback!

3. What Happens When I Bear Off My Last Checker?

When you legally bear off your fifteenth checker, you've won the game! TrigammonX recognises the victory and displays the game's result. Depending on the game version, you may also see a winner certificate or other victory information.

4. Are There Different Types of Wins?

Yes! Trigammon includes several victory classifications inspired by backgammon, along with a special Trigammon result.

These include:
  • Single Win — An ordinary victory.
  • Gammon — A special victory classification.
  • Backgammon — A higher-level victory classification.
  • Trigammon — A distinctive victory classification associated with the three-player game.
The exact classification depends on the final positions and bearing-off progress of the opposing players.
Additional scoring features, including doubling-cube support, are part of TrigammonX's ongoing development.

5. Does Triple Dice Change How I Win?

No. Whether you're playing with the default Triple Dice mode or the optional Two-Dice variation, the basic objective remains the same.

Be the first to bear off all 15 checkers. Different dice modes change your movement opportunities and strategic decisions, but not the fundamental goal.

6. Tips for Winning

Here are a few useful strategies:

  • Protect your checkers: Avoid leaving unnecessary single checkers exposed to hits.
  • Watch both opponents: A move that protects you from one opponent may leave you vulnerable to the other.
  • Build strong positions: Occupying points with multiple checkers can help block opposing moves.
  • Plan ahead: Consider where your checkers will need to go on future turns.
  • Don't forget the race: Ultimately, you must get all your checkers home and bear them off.
There is no single strategy that guarantees victory, but practice will help you recognise better opportunities.

7. Practise Against Computer Opponents.

Don't have two friends available?

TrigammonX supports playing against two computer-controlled opponents, so you can practise your strategy whenever you like.
You can also play with two human players and one computer opponent, or three human players.
